King Arthur Flour Announces November 16 Opening of New Baker’s Store
The Baker’s Store at King Arthur Flour will double in size and increase offerings
November 11, 2004—King Arthur Flour today announced the November 16 opening of its new Baker’s Store on Route 5 in Norwich. The Baker’s Store will move into the twelve-sided post and beam building located behind the original store on Route 5 South in Norwich. The retail store will expand from 2,000 to 4,000 square feet and will carry approximately 400 new items. November 16 is the first day the new store will be open. The company will hold a grand re-opening with food, gifts and door prizes on November 21.
“We’re looking forward to sharing a beautiful new space with our customers,” said Cindy Fountain, Retail Manager for The Baker’s Store at King Arthur Flour. “The new store enhances our ability to share the love of baking with our customers.”
The new retail store, staffed by bakers, has a new working kitchen with planned demonstrations twice a day. The bakery counter is also expanding with an increased selection of breads, pastries, sandwiches, salads and pizzas. With the many new products, bakery items and changes, The King Arthur Flour baking philosophy remains the same: adhere to traditional methods, using a minimum of machinery, relying instead upon the hands and technical skills of the baker. The Baker’s Store has grown from a shop for local customers to a baker’s destination attracting visitors from around the globe. “Don’t forget to bring the kids,” said Fountain. “We’ll have a life-size throne covered in red velvet where children can get their picture taken.” The Baker’s Store also has a children’s baking area in the store with kid-friendly baking products and baking sets. The store is open an additional ten hours per week to accommodate customers. Hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Sunday 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. In a continuing effort to bring back the American tradition of home baking, King Arthur Flour introduced The Baker’s Store in 1992. Founded in 1790, King Arthur Flour is one of America’s best-selling flours, known by avid bakers for its consistent baking performance and lack of chemical additives. King Arthur Flour, with more than one million bakers having participated in its workshops, seminars and classes, is the largest educator of bakers in the world.
