Golden Stollen: Old World, meet New

Recipe: Golden Stollen

Stollen. (Say “schtollen,” the word spoken with that guttural German flair which, after all, is its birthright).

Dresden, Germany has been known for its stollen since at least 1474, when this classic Christmas sweet bread was first mentioned in print.

Recipe: Blueberry Breakfast Cake

Custard pie. Noodle kugel. Rice pudding. Hot milk cake.

What do all of these foods have in common?

Comfort, right? While perhaps not at the top of your culinary Hit Parade, they’re easy to eat.

Comfort food is, perhaps, best characterized by what it’s NOT:

Assertively flavored. Crusty. Blazing hot, nor icy cold.

Fusion.

If I had just one recipe to take with me to a dessert island…

Recipe: Almond Puff Loaf

Raindrops on roses? Whiskers on kittens? Well, perhaps bright copper kettles (especially if someone else was cleaning them) would qualify as one of my favorite things.

My all-time favorite recipe? Almond Puff Loaf. read the rest of this entry »
