Simply Sinful Cinnamon Muffins: a real square deal

Recipe: Simply Sinful Cinnamon Muffins

Simply sinful.

Now if that’s not a culinary come-on, I don’t know what is.

Considering this signature spice’s spicy/sweet, fiery nature, is it any wonder that “sin” and the first syllable of CINnamon are homonyms?

In fact, scientists have compiled data showing the aroma of cinnamon is a powerful male aphrodisiac. (I think I’ll just leave it to you to decide what to do with THAT particular bit of information…)

Apple-Cinnamon Pull-Apart Rolls: from store-bought to homemade

Recipe: Apple-Cinnamon Pull-Apart Rolls

“I could do that.”

Who among us, upon walking into a bakery, up and down the aisles at the supermarket, or past the stands at a farmers’ market hasn’t looked at [bread, pie, cake, muffins, cookies...] and said, “Hey, I could do that.”

There’s one particular place this happens to me a lot. And, I surmise, lots of other people, too.

And where’s that?

Gluten-Free Blueberry Coffeecake: another magic mix miracle

Recipe: Gluten-Free Blueberry Coffeecake

GF_BlueberryCoffeeCake3_900w

So, it’s breakfast time again. You’re tired of cereal, the yogurt has expired, the waffle iron needs the old grease scraped out of its crannies from the last time you used it, and your children utter staggering groans when you suggest scrambled eggs.

Where’s the inspiration? Wanna turn those kiddo groans into a chorus of cheers?

Groping for the oatmeal box, your hand stumbles upon the King Arthur Flour gluten-free muffin mix you had stashed toward the back of the cabinet.

Muffins? Sure, why not? Or, better yet, how about coffeecake – one layered with streusel and berries?

Morning Glory Muffins: back to the future

Recipe: Morning Glory Muffins

Have you noticed the days getting longer?

We’re 5 weeks past the shortest day of the year, and it shows – particularly in the morning, when the drive to work happens in broad daylight, rather than gray and gloomy almost-dawn.

Speaking of driving to work, what’s an easy, fast, filling, and tasty way to eat breakfast on the run (or more likely, on the drive)?

Big hint at the top of this page, right?

Sourdough Popovers: high, wide, and handsome

Recipe: Sourdough Popovers

Popovers.

Their name is almost onomatopoetic, isn’t it? (Can’t believe I spelled THAT one right on the first try!)

I mean, when you put popovers into the oven, they look like calm, cream-colored lakes, serene as a summer sunrise.

But 15 or 20 minutes later – POP! Up they go, the steam created by the very-liquid batter hitting the just-formed flour/egg crust and carrying the whole shebang up, up, and away.

Triple Chocolate Scones: a “dark” start to Thanksgiving Day

Recipe: Triple Chocolate Scones

Thanksgiving is SO not about chocolate.

Chocolate cream pie? Maybe.

But chocolate cake? Chocolate chip cookies? Chocolate ice cream?

Try pecan pie, pumpkin bread, and ginger cookies. Cranberry cake. Apple crisp.

Chocolate, for one day in the year, takes a back seat to all its usually subsidiary flavors.

Notice I say, for ONE day of the year: Thanksgiving. And really, what’s to prevent you from slipping a bit of fudgy goodness onto the menu really early in the day Thursday? Triple Chocolate Scones go wonderfully well with your morning cup of coffee.

Plus, they augment the coffee’s caffeine as you’re prepping the turkey at 5:30 a.m…

Baked Doughnut Holes: it’s what’s missing that counts

Recipe: Cinnamon Baked Doughnut Holes

I didn’t used to like baked doughnuts.

I mean, isn’t the whole point of doughnuts that crisp, nicely greasy crust? That way you can taste the frying fat, along with sugar and cinnamon and other signature doughnut flavors?

Baked doughnuts? Sounds like an oxymoron to me.
