There’s Christmas fruitcake.
And then there’s Christmas fruit cake.
The difference a single space between two words can make is nowhere more evident than here.

Recipe: Thanksgiving Stuffing Loaf

We wait all year for Thanksgiving, bake up a storm for 3 days prior, then POOF!
It’s all over in about 30 minutes flat.
The soft dinner roll leaking its melting pat of butter; bright, tangy fresh-cranberry sauce; the perfectly roasted bird, mashed potatoes enhanced with cream, the family’s favorite comfort-food side dish (green bean casserole? Sweet potatoes with marshmallow?)…
Enjoyed, and gone.
Gone – but in some cases, not forgotten. While the chocolate cream pie and cherry cheesecake may have vanished, and the turkey been turned into pot pie and soup, you can re-create stuffing’s wonderful signature flavor any time of the year – without even resorting to Stove Top.

Did you know there are still Pilgrims celebrating Thanksgiving today, nearly four centuries after America’s original Thanksgiving dinner?

Given my penchant for mismatched socks, funky earrings, and Mickey Mouse, it usually doesn’t surprise folks to learn I was a preschool and kindergarten teacher for many years before coming to King Arthur Flour. I love watching the uniqueness and curiosity of kids, and finding new ways to help them discover the world around them.
Being an artsy-crafty kind of gal, too, I must admit that project time was one of my favorite times of day. Macaroni necklaces, stained glass (plastic, really) windows, sugar art, and giant murals made me as happy, as the children and I still have a few of those masterpieces tucked away for safekeeping.

Recipe: Nantucket Cranberry Cake

PLOP!
The sound of cranberry sauce being dropped from its can onto a serving plate.
“Ahhhhh….” The sound of an appreciative dessert-lover enjoying a bite of buttery, tender, tart-sweet cranberry cake.
PLOP is OK. But “Ahhhh…” So much more satisfying, when you’re a DIY-type person.

Recipe: Turkey chili hand pies

Turkey soup, again?
Surely, you can’t be serious. “I am serious, and don’t call me Shirley.”
Now that you’ve had your pop culture reference for the day, I’m totally serious about the turkey soup.

When someone first starts following a gluten-free diet, what do you think they miss the most?
Chocolate chip cookies? Pancakes? Birthday cake, maybe?
Nope. While we haven’t seen any “official” studies offering insight into this question, our anecdotal research shows that what people miss most on their gluten-free diet is…

Just look at this coffeecake, would you?
It’s delightfully moist, its texture a perfect balance between heavy and light: substantial, yet not unpleasantly dense.
Its cinnamon-streusel topping is the perfect crunchy counterpoint to the thin layer of soft cranberry sauce just beneath the crust, and to the cake itself.
Looking to add fiber to your diet? This cake’s 100% whole wheat. And boy, does it taste good…
But looks? Well, if looks were everything, this coffeecake would be less than nothing.
It’s just so… beige.

Recipe: Big Batch Quick Dinner Rolls

**hum**
Timer rings, are you listenin’?
On the tray, turkey’s glistenin’
A beautiful sight, we’re happy tonight,
Thinkin’ ’bout a big batch of buns…
