Director of Quality Assurance

Reports to Vice President of Operations

This position leads King Arthur Flour business channels in the development, execution, and maintenance of the highest level of food safety practices for our manufacturing and food handling facilities. You will have a solid understanding of FDA compliance, present and future. You will be responsible for maintaining GFSI certification and HACCP policies for our VT manufacturing facility. You will direct the Food Safety Team and act as a resource for our Directors as they manage our extensive network of US mills, plants and other food handling facilities under the King Arthur Flour umbrella. You will be well-versed in food safety trends and regulations; utilizing our food safety and supplier compliance, you will educate others in technical and regulatory knowledge. You will support colleagues engaged in food processing and handling to ensure continuous control over materials, facilities and products.

  • Project Leader in obtaining GFSI SQF Level II certification
  • Develop and manage annual Quality Budget including identification of resources throughout the organization required to implement and support continuous improvement and training.
  • Establish, monitor and support the execution tracking of all Food Safety training programs
  • Regulatory liaison to ensure KAF branded product compliance with all federal regulations including but not limited to FDA, FTC, FSIS regulations
  • Supervise KAF's internal SQF practitioner HACCP team members to audit, manage corrective action and train all employees as required for compliance with SOPs, Good Manufacturing Practices as defined in HACCP standards
  • Ensure a Vendor Compliance Program is in place and a universal scorecard is managed and implemented
  • Develop and maintain a Raw Material Certificate of Analysis Program for both internal KAF Research and Development and Manufacturing as well as external supplier partners
  • Lead regular and collaborative communication across the company about food safety and SQF issues
  • Manage and document all third party audit and inspections
  • Conduct internal audit programs and mock recalls, manage Corrective and Preventative Action Programs
  • Leader of Food Safety Team to insure Food Safety is a primary objective of all food handling areas of the company
  • Manage and improve process performance by conducting operational stress analysis

  • Bachelor's degree in biology and or food science or related area
  • 10 years experience in food industry
  • Working knowledge of quality and food safety methods and techniques, quality assurance standards, food laboratory testing methods and operations, microbiology and statistical process control techniques.
  • Previous experience with plant audits/inspections including: customer, 3rd party and government inspections
  • Strong analytical skill and experience
  • Strong working knowledge of regulatory compliance – FDA, HACCP and SQF/GFSI standards
