King Arthur Flour offers a generous program consisting of traditional and creative benefits for all employees

Health benefits

Medical coverage

Employee-owners may choose between three medical plans through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont (BCBSVT).

The PPO plan offers coverage both in and out of network. This plan requires co-payments for most office visits and medications. Deductibles and co-insurance are charged for most hospital stays, surgeries, diagnostic testing and imaging services.

The Consumer Directed Health Plans (CDHPs) also offer coverage in and out of network. These plans require deductibles and co-insurance for most services and medications. However, these plans offer certain wellness visits and medications at no cost to members. These plans are also federally qualified as High Deductible Health Plans (HDHP) and include a Health Savings Account (HSA) for eligible participants. King Arthur Flour contributes to HSA accounts for eligible employees who elect this coverage option.

Vision coverage

Our vision plan through VSP provides annual eye examinations, plus coverage for conventional corrective lenses, contact lenses, and frames through a nationwide network. Coverage for employee-owners is free.

Dental coverage

Our dental plan through Delta Dental offers a range of dental care services, including no cost preventative services.

Health and dependent reimbursement accounts

Pre-tax savings programs available to all employee-owners offer medical and dependent care reimbursement.

Retirement benefits

ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan)

King Arthur Flour is 100% employee-owned. Shares of stock are allocated to employees once a year through our ESOP, a Qualified Retirement Plan.

401(k) retirement savings plan

In addition to our ESOP, employee-owners may choose to participate in King Arthur Flour’s 401(k) plan with a company-matching provision for pre-tax retirement savings.

Life and disability benefits

Long and short term disability

King Arthur Flour provides Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) Coverage equal to an employee-owner’s annual salary, up to a maximum of $100,000, for no cost to the employee. Employees may choose to purchase additional life insurance, including spousal and dependent coverage.

company ethos

Company ethos

Our mission

We support and seek to expand all aspects of baking by being the highest quality product, information, and education resource for, and inspiration to, bakers worldwide. Our foundation is our good King Arthur flours, and our commitment is to the highest standards of excellence, value, and integrity in everything we do.

Our purpose

The King Arthur Flour Company seeks to build communities worldwide through the creative joy of baking. This is our reason for being; it reaches beyond the bottom line into everything we do. Our purpose within our own company is to:

  • Inspire and guide each and every person at King Arthur
  • Expand, prosper, and endure
  • Provide employee-owners with guidance and support as the business constantly grows and changes

Employment philosophy

Our business and mission springs from wheat, familiarly known as the staff of life. We're guided by a commitment to exceptional product quality, to honesty, and to the education, enrichment, empowerment, and welfare of our customers and our employees. We want to do things the right way for the right reasons. Just as our flour embodies the Arthurian qualities of strength and purity, so do we, as people, try to emulate the Round Table virtues of loyalty and integrity.

Employees work as teams, participating in decision-making, helping one another accomplish company goals, and carrying responsibility for their own area of expertise. Just as plants grow well when they receive warmth and food, so do people thrive in their jobs when they hear kind words and receive a helping hand.

Employee ownership

King Arthur Flour is a 100% employee-owned company. That means that each person working here has a real stake in the company’s success - or failure. We strive to offer the highest quality ingredients, tools, and service for our customers, because we believe that’s the right way to do business.

We also strive to be a positive force in our communities - locally, nationally, and in the business world - because we believe in “doing well by doing good.” Through our efforts, we hope to inspire our customers and partners so we may all work together toward a better world.

reason for being

Do you love going to work every morning? We do.

Here at The King Arthur Flour Company in Norwich, Vermont, we enjoy our jobs. As America’s premier baking resource, we sell flour and baking products to bread bakers and cookie lovers all over the country. We feel good taking care of our customers, our community, and the beautiful environment around us–all part of our mission.

where we live

Life in the Upper Valley

King Arthur Flour is headquartered in Norwich, Vermont, just across the Connecticut River from Hanover, N.H., and Dartmouth College. The surrounding area, known as the Upper Valley, is a region of incredible natural beauty and vibrant communities. From a wealth of cultural events to one of the region’s premier medical centers, from ample outdoor recreation opportunities to proximity to the region’s major cities, the Upper Valley offers a great place to live and work. Hanover currently ranks #6 on Money magazine's list of America's best small towns.

Dartmouth College

The Upper Valley community has a strong commitment to educational excellence. Dartmouth College lies at the heart of the Upper Valley in Hanover. Founded in 1769 and a member of the Ivy League, Dartmouth College is home to the Thayer School of Engineering, the Tuck School of Business, and Dartmouth Medical School. Many nationally recognized private schools and public school systems are located in Upper Valley towns, as are several accredited community colleges.

The Upper Valley boasts an exciting array of cultural events and attractions for people of all ages. Music lovers will enjoy great shows nearly every day at places like the Tupelo Music Hall in White River Junction, Vt., the Lebanon Opera House in Lebanon, N.H., and many smaller local venues. For the art enthusiast, AVA Gallery & Art Center and the Hood Museum of Art offer opportunities to create and appreciate; for the scientist, the Montshire Museum of Science and Vermont Institute of Natural Science provide fun learning spaces for kids and adults. And with historic sites like St. Gaudens National Historic Site and Billings Farm & Museum, seasonal farmers markets offering fresh produce and local crafts, a wide variety of restaurants and shops, frequent theater productions and academic lectures, and much more, there’s plenty to explore in the Upper Valley. And if that’s not enough, it’s just a two-hour drive to Boston, three hours to Portland, and five hours to New York City, and our regional airport offers connections to farther destinations.

Health care

The area’s primary medical facility, the nationally ranked Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC), is located in nearby Lebanon, N.H. In addition, Lebanon and several other local towns are home to smaller hospitals and independent clinics offering primary and specialty care to patients from around the region. Quality dentists, optometrists, and alternative care providers – acupuncturists, massage therapists, naturopathic physicians – are also available throughout the Upper Valley.

The Upper Valley is a wonderful place for the outdoor enthusiast year-round. Hikers will enjoy the Appalachian Trail, which runs through Norwich and Hanover, as well as myriad shorter but stunning local trails. Many beautiful lakes and ponds, and the Connecticut River, offer opportunities for swimming, boating, and fishing. The Northern Rail Trail is a safe and enjoyable place for bicyclists of all ages. Beautiful fall foliage makes any outdoor adventure even more rewarding. In the winter, skiers can hit the slopes locally or take a short trip to bigger mountains like Killington or Okemo; or try snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, or ice fishing in the places you hike, bike, and swim during the summer! Those who enjoy some indoor recreation will find ample opportunities through the River Valley Club and The Carter Community Building Association (CCBA), Upper Valley Aquatic Center, local yoga studios, and more.
