King Arthur Flour Named One of Vermont's 2011 Best Places to Work

Employee-Owned Company Makes Statewide List for Fifth Year

America's oldest flour company has been named one of the 20 Best Places to Work in Vermont this year, the fifth year running. Final rankings will be announced at an awards ceremony this spring.

King Arthur Flour has been named to the list of Best Places to Work in Vermont since 2006. This year, King Arthur Flour will be ranked among large-size companies (150 or more U.S. employees).

"We're pleased to once again be named to the list of Best Places to Work in Vermont, and we know that employee ownership is a significant part of the corporate culture that makes that possible," says King Arthur Flour Vice President of Human Resources Suzanne McDowell. "Our dedicated employee-owners work hard each day not only to make our company successful, but to foster a workplace environment where each individual is respected and empowered to make a real difference in our company's future. This is true of most employee-owned companies, and we're happy to see it being recognized through the Best Places to Work awards program."

The survey and award program was designed to identify, recognize and honor the best workplaces in Vermont, companies that benefit the state's economy, workforce and businesses.

Award winners are determined in large part by an anonymous survey completed by employees to measure their experiences and find out what they really think about their companies; 70% of the judging for the award is based on those survey results. Judging also includes evaluating each nominated company's workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. The combined scores determined the top companies and the final ranking. The 2011 award program recognizes 20 companies in two categories: small/medium-size (15-149 U.S. employees) and large-size companies (150 or more U.S. employees).

The program, now in its fifth year in Vermont, was created by Vermont Business Magazine, the Vermont State Chamber of Commerce, the Vermont Department of Labor, the Vermont Department of Economic Development, the Society for Human Resource Management-Vermont State Council, and Best Companies Group. Best Companies Group managed the overall registration, survey and analysis process in Vermont. For more information on the Best Places to Work in Vermont program, visit
