King Arthur Flour’s New Gluten-Free Product Line Tapped as 2010 Outstanding New Product Finalist

America’s oldest flour company’s new gluten-free product line placed in top 5 amongst 200 entries in New Product Line category

King Arthur Flour’s new gluten-free baking mixes were chosen as a sofi Silver Finalist, Outstanding Product Line 2010, by the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade. The annual sofi awards recognize outstanding innovation in specialty foods. “Food producers from around the country and abroad attended NASFT’s Summer Fancy Food Show in New York. With over 2,256 entries across 33 award categories, we are honored to place as one of the top five new product lines amongst the 200 entries in our category,” said Tom Payne, marketing director at King Arthur Flour.

Consumers and food buyers first tasted the King Arthur Flour gluten-free product line in March at the Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, Calif. “The acceptance of our new gluten-free product line was unprecedented,” according to Peter Bouchard, director of sales at King Arthur Flour. “Food buyers had a chance to taste this revolutionary gluten-free product line and decide themselves it was worth stocking.” King Arthur gluten-free mixes are available in grocery stores throughout the U.S.

2010 marks not only the 220th birthday of America’s oldest flour company but also the company’s entry into a new category of premium baking mixes, gluten-free. The new line includes GlutenFree Multi-Purpose Flour for scratch baking, and seven convenience mixes: GlutenFree Bread, Pizza Crust, Cookie, Brownie, Chocolate Cake, Muffin and Pancake mixes. “No compromises” was the motto the product development team embraced during the several years spent creating the mixes. Consumer feedback confirms the taste and baking performance of the King Arthur gluten-free mixes rivals that of King Arthur Flour’s gluten containing baking mixes, on which the company has built its reputation along with King Arthur’s good flour.

Just as King Arthur Flour guarantees its flour is chemical-free, the new gluten-free product line comes with the assurance of third-party certification by the Gluten Free Certification Organization, with standards twice as stringent as those set by the FDA. The mixes and ingredients are produced in a dedicated allergen-free facility and certified Kosher by the Chicago Rabbinical Council.

The NASFT is a not-for-profit trade association established in 1952 to foster trade, commerce and interest in the specialty food industry. Today there are more than 2,900 members in the U.S. and abroad. For further information on the NASFT and its Fancy Food Shows, go to specialtyfood.com.
