Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups King Arthur Flour All-Purpose Baking Mix
  • 2/3 cup milk

Tips from our bakers

  • To make drop biscuits, skip the kneading, and use a scoop to drop the dough onto the baking sheet.
  • For extra-rich biscuits, use half & half or cream instead of milk. Add a few extra tablespoons of milk or cream if the dough seems dry.
  • For shortcake biscuits, use 1 cup cream instead of the milk; and add 2 tablespoons sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla to the dough.

Directions

1) Preheat the oven to 450°F.

2) Stir together the baking mix and milk to make a soft dough.

3) Turn the dough out onto a work surface heavily sprinkled with baking mix, sprinkle the top of the dough with more mix, and knead a few turns, until cohesive.

4) Pat the dough about 3/4" thick, and cut with a 2" to 2 1/2" biscuit cutter. Place the biscuits on an ungreased baking sheet.

5) Bake the biscuits for 8 to 12 minutes, until golden brown. Remove from the oven, and serve hot.

Yield: 6 to 9 biscuits, depending on size.

  • I needed a quick starch to go with dinner; mental blank wall. Then I remembered I had a box of this mix in the pantry. I followed the recipe exactly with the only addition of a scant 1/4 c of shredded cheddar. The biscuits were so far beyond what I expected. Really tender, flaky, delicious - and fast. Family ate them up.

  • These are excellent biscuits. I am very disappointed that only the gluten free mix is available at my local market!!!

  • I added a dollop of mayo to this recipe. It came out really tender. My six year old granddaughter made the basic recipe with just a little supervision and they were great.

  • I've used equal parts by weight heavy whipping cream and SR flour for a long time. If you weigh it you can adjust for the number of biscuits you need.
