There is a design flaw with this product. The plunger once removed from the tube is impossible to reinsert. Based on the challenges in other reviews, I suggest King Arthur Flour reconsider selling this product.

I purchased it at the KAF Baker's store in VT (I live 2 hours away) and I used it for the first time last night - only to find the plastic plunger was cracked. It was a disappointment to find my new item was broken before being used a single time. Otherwise, I think I would have been happy with it.

I was disappointed with how difficult it was to get the frosting out of the syringe. If you look on the metal circular push part, you'll see that there is a gap in the metal - it's not joined, which means that when you go to push the frosting out, part of your finger goes through that gap (ouch!) and the remaining part of your finger has two pressure points as you push (ouch!) I rated this item two stars because I am very pleased with how well it's constructed, its a solid kitchen tool, but I wouldn't have gotten it if I would've known how much it would hurt to actually use it. I am very happy with this! I have no trouble using it, and I like being able to decorate with one hand. I've only tried basic buttercream in it, but that worked well.

I had wanted the plastic squeeze bottles for icing the snowflake cookies, but they were not available when I ordered. I settled for the syringe instead, though I've never had good luck with that type . I, too am considering returning it. Without a recipe for icing that will flow in just the right speed, etc., I spent a lot of time trying different consistencies, and, in the meantime, I really gave my arthritic hands a workout. I am not happy about my last minute change in items, choosing the much more expensive one which did not work for me.

Fitting the plunger into the barrel is very difficult and renders the product almost unusable. I will give it one more try, but I am considering returning it. I have had an all-plastic one that I've had for years and was so-o-o-o excited to finally find another one, but alas, it did not serve me as well as I hoped.
