I had this mix in my pantry for a while. I usually make my own frostings, but I was out of powdered sugar when I needed to make my husband's birthday cake and I pulled this out. I made the fluffy version rather than the fudgy one. I think it was the dutch cocoa...I almost always use natural cocoa in my frosting, and the dutch just struck me as being fairly flat-tasting. Not *bad*, but neither was it something I'd use again. I actually ended up adding some natural cocoa to the mix (maybe 2-3 Tablespoons) just to give it a little boost, which helped. I understand that I may not be in the majority with my natural vs. dutch cocoa views, but please be aware that if you strongly prefer the taste of natural cocoa over dutch, this might not be the frosting for you.

I used this mix to frost cupcakes I made using your "Deliciously Simple Chocolate Cake" and was really pleased with the results. Good spread, no grittiness, and lots of fudgy chocolate yumminess.

i have spent years buying the little containers instead of making from scratch. i'm glad King arthur flour has made an easy tasty way to frost thier wonderful cake mixes. i chose the fluffy frosting and it is. it is also REALLY good. i've uh. had spoonfuls waiting for the cupcakes to bake and cool. i highly recommend this frosting. i did add some of the neilsen massey bourbon vanilla they sell on this site by the way. perfect! Thanks!

A wonderful, fragrant icing. I do, however, suggest the fudgey preparation suggestion over the fluffy.

Smells like heaven! I can't seem to find the right recipe for making chocolate frosting from scratch, so this mix does the trick. Very fragrant chocolate scent, has people drooling as soon as I open the cake cover, and it's very rich. Plenty for a 2-layer 9" cake.
