A combination of citrus and vanilla

Here at The Baker's Catalogue, we have to restrain ourselves from using Fiori di Sicilia in EVERYTHING! We think it's second only to vanilla, as far as flavorful multi-tasking goes.

  • A Baker’s Catalogue exclusive!
  • A combination of citrus and vanilla with a pleasingly floral aroma.
  • Use about 1/2 teaspoon in a typical recipe for cookies, pound cake, pie, meringues, sweet bread, etc.
  • Italians use Fiori di Sicilia ("flowers of Sicily") to scent their panettone and pandoro.
  • For best freshness, refrigerate after opening. And caution, don't spill it on the counter, please – it stains.
  • 1 oz. bottle.
Ah, Fiori... where should you start? Try our recipe for Creamy vanilla-orange cheesecake.

PLEASE NOTE: This product must be shipped via standard ground. To avoid any delay in the processing of your order, please select ground shipping option once you are in your shopping cart. (Leaving any other method as your shipping option will delay your order.)

TEST KITCHEN TIP: You know that wonderful marriage of flavors you taste when you combine vanilla ice cream and orange sherbet in the same bowl? That’s what Fiori di Sicilia tastes like. We find that using it in just about anything mild and sweet–anything where competing flavors, like chocolate, don’t interfere–adds a wonderfully mysterious taste. Your friends will be guessing just what you’ve done to your sugar cookies or yellow cake or sweet bread to make them taste SO good!

I added 1/2 teaspoon of this to the KAF sugar cookie recipe. The flavor of the cookies turned out really well - with a citrus flavor, but I would use only a 1/4 or 1/8 teaspoon next time. This flavor goes a long way. I would also use a dropper next time as suggested, because I spilled a lot of it. Overall, I highly recommend.

The citrus flavor adds such mystery to baked goods. I put a 1/4 tsp. in blueberry muffins, and they were wonderful. I also added 3/8 tsp. to my homemade yogurt recipe (without sugar), along with vanilla. I could actually "smell" the yogurt as it fermented in the machine. The yogurt tastes light and lemony--should make a great fruit smoothie, too! I agree that it is difficult to measure from the bottle, so will try the suggested method of using a straw as a pipette. A small, clean eye-dropper would work, too.

I've read all the reviews and wonder how many of you know that this combination is not from the Boyajian company but is a product of KA. They also don't tell you that not only does this stuff stain but it will eat a hole right through your plastic refridg. shelf. Then if you notifiy them they remind you they mention not to get it on plastic because it stains but forget to tell you it's so caustic it literally ate a hole in my shelf. To try to peel it off of the shelf after it fell over in my fridg. is like peeling acrilic paint off a wall. I wonder what it does to the stomach. Mixing this many citrus acids together apparently does more damage than good. Beware if use this stuff, I'll never use it again.

We're very sorry for the unfortunate experience you had with our fiori. Flori Di Sicilia contains components that are extracted from lemon or orange peel. These extractives may damage plastics when they are in a concentrated form, such as those found in this flavor. When used at the recommend levels, it poses no harm to humans, much in the same manner eating an orange or adding lemon juice to food. Flavoring using lemon and orange extractives have been used to flavor baked goods for generations. For those who are having trouble dispensing this product: use a drinking straw as a pipette! Just dip a clean straw a half-inch or so into the bottle, and put your finger over the open top of the straw. The deeper you put the straw in, the more will be in it. Move the bottom end of your straw to your measuring spoon and remove your finger from the top of the straw--the liquid will fall out of the straw and into the spoon. Clean, simple, no waste! If you want tiny amounts, use a hollow coffee stirrer instead of a regular straw.

Wonderful addition to my baking pantry! I made cupcakes with this and also a nice buttercream icing with this added in addition to a little Tahitian vanilla extract. It is delightful! I even tinted half of the icing in a pastel orange color, and filled the bag with part pastel orange and the white/natural colored buttercream (also flavored)....and I called the cupcakes "Creamsicle Cupcakes"...they were a big hit! I'll be purchasing this again!

I used this flavor in a cake I made and all the family raved about the taste. I have kept my secret and plan to use it in my pancake batter! Love it!

One of the greatest secret ingredients I have ever used! I use it in my scones and also in dessert crepes. A little goes a long way and I highly recommend it.

I use this mainly in homemade cinnamon rolls. Lends a slight citrusy note that sends the rolls over the top! Yum...

I baked a pound cake with this extract. The flavor was o.k. Nothing great about the flavor.
