Take a break from the usual gingerbread house. This easy gingerbread train kit makes a playful holiday centerpiece.

  • Kit comes with pre-baked train pieces and a slotted tray to set them in: no wobbling, no tipping as icing hardens.
  • Pre-made icings (one white, one green) come in a piping bag; just snip open bag, point, and squeeze to “cement” train together.
  • Add icing decorations, then candies.
  • Kit includes plenty of decorating candy.
  • Caboose is 2 ¼" H X 2 ½" W X 4" L and Engine is 3" H X 3 ½" W X 6" L

The kit was very easy to use, but the icing was difficult to get to flow easily. I ended making my own royal icing and then things went great. Read my review: http://easteuropeanfood.about.com/b/2009/11/08/gingerbread-train-kit-passes-muster.htm

I made the train last year for my granddaughter. I had never tried to work with gingerbread before, and the kit was great - easy instructions and everything worked the way it was supposed to for a first time builder. Certainly, my 3 year old granddaughter was impressed with Grandma's creative side!

This is a wonderful idea! I sent the train and house kits to three different sets of nieces and nephews. The parents said the kids ages 4-10, had a lot of fun,and were so proud of their work!! A great gift!

After reading the other reviews I was excited about this train. I must not have the touch cause it was a disaster! The roof of the train broke in the wrong place when I was breaking it apart even though I was being very careful. That wasn't a problem after I decorated it. Maybe being left handed I could not decorate the back of the train and cabose, I had to take it apart to do that and put it back together. The train was hard to get out of the tray and fell apart after it was it was sitting out after about an hour. Tried twice to put it back together then gave up and threw it away.

Green icing doesn't dry a fast as white so doesn't work as well as "cement." Finished product looks great. My Grandson loved putting it together.

This is an excellent kit for kids to use on their own or with minimal assistance. It comes with a tray that the train fits into, so keeping the train together as you build it is a lot easier. Depending on how young the kids are you are working with, you may want to thicken the royal icing a bit (adding some 10X sugar) so it dries more quickly. You also might want to use pieces of breadsticks at the joints of the cars to give them more support. All in all, this is the least stressful kit I have found for making a giingerbread train.
