I used this dye for St. Patricks Day and was pleased, although I couldn't get a green as dark as I would have liked. Unfortunately, when I used it this weekend to make royal icing for my gingerbread men, it was terrible. Like a previous reviewer had said, it had a terrible odor and color. It turned my icing a pale yellow. I had to throw out the entire batch. I was too afraid to use any of the other colors as I didn't want to ruin anymore icing. We ended up with white icing on our gingerbread men.

Uncharacteristically for KAF a product, this coloring was not good. I used varying quantities to tint royal icing for sugar cookies. The coloring had a slightly off, fishy-ish smell, but I forged ahead on the assumption that if KAF was selling it, it'd be okay.. Not only did it totally taint the taste of the cookies, even those on which I used only a tiny bit for a very lgiht green, but after about 24 hours it started to separate into a yellowish, pond-scummy color. I attribute the problem to the dye becuase of the bad smell, as well as becuase my white-frosted cookies tasted totally yummy. A rare disappointment, but a serious one. I gave the cookies as gifts despite my perception of the off taste, and it was noticed by all

I haven't received this dye yet, but I can't wait to use it! My daughter is sensitive to food dyes and I was so excited to see that King Arthur was selling a natural dye product. I can only hope that King Arthur can find natural sprinkles for decorating too!
