We will make this every year! Yummy!

The cake was a tad dry, but tasty, and I loved the way the almond filling came out. But I have to agree about the Baby Jesus. I made the cake the day I planned to eat and was surprised that there was no baby. Especially since everything else one could possibly need was included. I had to stop baking and run to the store. Yes, the baby was easy to find, in a craft store about twenty minutes from my house, but really now, for the price of the cake kit, not to include an integral part of the tradition and a very inexpensive part, was a big minus. otherwise the cake was good, though it was missing some directions. All in all, the kit needs a bit of tweaking to rate five stars for me.

The cake was good, and I especially liked the way mixing bread crumbs with the almond paste lightened the filling. However, there was no plastic baby Jesus included to embed in the cake after baking -- a serious oversight in terms of the tradition.

Loved this! We want to have a Fat Tuesday party next year and tried this out. It was wonderful. I found some teeny little teddy bears at the Dollar Store for the 'baby'. I cut a small slice in the bottom of the ring when it was baked and inserted the plastic bear. Will be purchasing this for our party next year!

I made this for a Mardis Gras party and it was the hit of the party. My only suggestion is to include a Mardis Gras "baby" to bake in the cake.

I've been baking for many years & have LOVED all my purchases from King Arthur. I was running short on time for getting all our Mardi Gras foods done & thought I'd cheat a bit by using this kit (I usually make the King Cake from scratch). But this is the densest, driest thing I have ever made. Everything else in the kit is great: icing, deco sugars, almond paste. As for the baby everyone is looking for, all one has to do is go look in the cake decorating section at your local craft, grocery, or mass merchandising store.
We're sorry this didn't work out as well as you'd hoped. Please call us at 800-827-6836 for a refund.

This is FABULOUS!!! Simply wonderful! For those of you who complain about there not being a "baby" included: Plastic contains BPA which (especially when heated) is toxic and leeches into your food. You should never - EVER - bake a plastic baby in your King Cake (or anything else for that matter). Do an internet search on BPA...instead, I use a whole pecan. It works great!!

This mix produced the best King cake I've ever had- and it was super easy with the dough hook on my mixer. Love it and recommend it very highly. We bought 2 and are thinking of buying more.

I'm going to make the cake tonight. However, I do have a baby to put in the cake - should I add before baking or after and carefully cover up the hole? Thanks!
Most King Cake bakers add the baby after the cake is cooked. Enjoy your pre-lenten celebrations! Irene @ KAF
