This yogurt maker is easy to use and we eat a lot of yogurt. I find it is too thin for my taste so I use the Greek cheese maker to strain it. It comes out thick and creamy.

I really, really want to leave a sterling review for this item, but I made my first batch of yogurt yesterday (I used 2 qts. organic 2% milk, and the yogurt starter), and I just tested the final results. Sadly, my yogurt turned out bitter and runny, and I'm not sure what I did wrong. I'm probably going to try straining it in the bag, since that seems to be the way to go about getting Greek yogurt. I think? The directions are pretty abysmal (I'd like to give the instruction booklet negative stars, if I could). The machine itself is easy to use and I don't really have a problem with the bucket; like another commenter said, you just take the lid off and grasp the top of the bucket to pull it out. No huge hardship there. But the yogurt was... like I said, not so good -- I'm willing to chalk it up to user error, but I'm not sure what I did wrong.
I'm sorry for your disappointment. Please give our baker's hotline a call so we can get some more details and help you troubleshoot. ~Amy

Just made my first batch and it turned out wonderful. Great consistency. If you eat a lot of yogurt, don't waste your money (like I did) on the smaller unit that makes 7 individual jars. Spend a little more and get this one. It would be nice to have an automatic shut off but I would still recommend it

Have used this product 3 or 4 times now and love that I can make yogurt at home with it. Still experimenting with getting the consistency the way we like it (thick) but very pleased with the product. Be careful with the white yogurt container lid; it is not secure enough to lift by the lid when the container has yogurt in it. A handle would be a nice refining feature on the bucket.

As I write this review I am enjoying yogurt which was made with this yogurt maker. It is delicious! I particularly like this one because I can easily make either 1 or 2 quarts at one time. The thermometer attaches to the side of the pan used to heat the milk which makes it easy to monitor the temperature. The bag which is included to use to make yogurt cheese is also a nice touch.

I used to have an old Salton yogurt maker with individual glass containers, but it finally died several years ago. I picked this model specifically because I eat yogurt every day and liked the idea of making a large batch. Overall, I have had great results, however, there are a couple of design issues that I think could be better. First, the internal container is a little tricky to remove from the incubator. I have to remove the lid and grasp it by the top 1/4 to 1/2 inch of head room. Also, I would have loved it if the internal container were glass instead of plastic; it just seems preferable to me. Other than that - the yogurt it makes is great. I have been straining mine for Greek style yogurt. It is really nice that the dairy thermometer was included. My next batch, I plan to try a shorter incubation time, though. I have a recipe book that gives a much shorter incubation time (4 hours) and also says that longer times result in a tarter product, so I will be experimenting as the current results are a little bit on the tart side for my tastes.

This makes delicious yogurt and is very easy to use and clean. I appreciated the other reviews that suggested taking the lid off to move to tub, and I've had no problems getting the full tub in and out of the machine. I would like to comment on what one reviewer called the "timer". It's actually called an "hour reminder" and I think it's a great idea. It allows you to mark the number corresponding with the hour the yogurt will be done. You get to decide how long you want to let it incubate. I find it especially handy the more frequently I make yogurt since I don't always start it at the same time. Also, it's nice that it doesn't turn off automatically in case I'm not here at that time to take care of it. I use this with the Greek Yogurt/Cheese Maker and it works beautifully to give the yogurt the consistency I'm looking for. All in all it's a wonderful product I would highly recommend!

I'm am having a hard time getting my soy milk to set up. I am using 8th Continent Vanilla (full flavor) which has fructose in it, almost 1/4 tsp of yogurt starter and let it incubate for 10hrs.....still is very soupy. Any ideas?

We have been experimenting with our new yogurt maker. We've found that adding a cup of dried milk to the heated milk (we use all no-fat milk) makes a wonderfully thick yogurt without having to drain it at all. I do wish they would create a yogurt maker that would heat the milk up as well as incubate it,so it is less fuss and not an extra pan to wash, but as for the quality of this unit, we've been very pleased. My only caution is when taking the full, completed yogurt container out of the unit, take the lid off of the container so you can grasp the sides of it to pull it out. The lid isn't secure enough to support the weight when you are lifting it full out of the incubator. I would recommend this maker to a friend.

A cup of any plain yogurt (small container, not necessarily 8 oz.) plus half a gallon of milk plus time in this gizmo equals great yogurt. Processing yogurt 24 hours is recommended on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, so I like that I can leave this plugged and working that long (unlike most others, it doesn't turn itself off).
