I can't review it yet, but I have a question. When checking the temperature of a roast or whole bird, how far in do you have to insert the probe, to get the internal temperature? Thank you in advance.
Use this tool as you would any other probe thermometer. You will need to go in to reach "center" and avoid hitting bone. Frank @ KAF.

I have 2 of the previous generation thermapens and use them almost daily for over 8 months. Thought I couldn't be happier, but now they have come out with the splash-proof version and I had to order it. Same great thermometer in a more water resistant package. I use the thermapen in liquids a lot so the new splash-proof version is perfect. I was always worried about getting the standard pen too wet.

I bought this through King Arthur and their delivery was just as advertised. The unit is faster than my lesser priced thermometers, but the real difference for a grill-er like me, is the length and the ability to read thin items such as steaks, burgers, and fish. There are some others out there in the same price range that may be as good, but to get the overall results this provides, you will have to spend this type of money.

This is so nice, accurate and fast. So glad I spent the money on it -- worth every penny. I have spent so much on cheap thermometers over the years, I'm glad to have one I know works and will last!

i am a home cook and I love my Thermapen. I originally bought it to use when I bake bread but it can be used for all cooking/baking ventures and makes me wish I had never purchased any of the other worthless food thermometers I've owned. It is amazing fast, accurate, and simple to use. It was expensive, and I battled over whether or not to get it, but ultimately, my need for it and the reviews convinced me. Worth it. Too bad the new one is even higher priced. I got mine for $5 or so $ less (also with the free shipping). The extra dollars for the new one would annoy me, but if baking is your thing, it's a worthwhile investment.

This works great. It is quick, accurate, and cleans easily. I use it for candy, poultry & all meats. I even stuck it in my frig. when I didn't think it was cooling right.

I swallowed hard and forked out the $$ for this, and I'm glad I did. I use it all the time. In addition to meats and such, I now know that the "lukewarm" water (90 to 100 deg) that a recipe calls for is actually lukewarm. I just read an article on how to recalibrate this unit at home, so, I know this will last a long, long with the accuracy and speed I've been looking for.

I've gotten only as far as the catalog listing. The specs say nothing about selection of temperature scales. Can this thermometer be switched to read in degrees Celsius? If so, once switched will it stay there or must one switch it to Celsius each time it is used?
This thermometer is in fahrenheit only. It is not switchable. Frank @ KAF.

If you are serious about turning out perfect results, from bread to perfectly cooked meats, this is for you. At first I was concerned because of the price, but I ordered anyway. When I'm baking bread, it makes a differance to be able to get instant results so your bread isn't out of the oven long. I tried using a "regular" one and as I'm standing at the oven waiting for the reading, I'm thinking "this bread is getting cold". To check meat, it's a breeze. We like fillet mignon (when it's on super sale) and it comes out perfectly every time with this little gadget. No more overcooked (or undercooked) meat. It's easy to clean and sturdy. You can even wipe it down with an antiseptic wipe. A little pricey, but definitely worth it!

It is so wonderful to quit guessing when something is done - this provides accurate temperature readings instantly and takes all the guesswork out.
