Have only used this thermometer twice but worked well for candy and a roast. I like that the thermometer can clip onto a pot for candy. Also like the magnet on the back of the unit .
Even the manufacturer couldn't help with the programing, and felt that it might be defective, so I returned it. A first KA product in which I was disappointed. I will use my trusty digital thermapen. Can't go wrong with that, and it can be used up to 572˚ - a higher temp than I'd ever use.
We are sorry to hear that these did not work out for you. Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback ~MJ

Sooooo glad I bought this instead of replacing my broken glass candy thermometer. It's fantastic for candy making, bread, beef, chicken, whatever you need to monitor the temperature of for the best results. I don't know how I managed without it! Definitely would recommend this to anyone who cooks or bakes.

I really like that when I am not using the timer it displays the real time on it. Also on the back of the timer it has the temperatures of the cooked proteins. The only thing I wish there was some kind of volume control on it because I don't think it is loud enough to hear if I am in a different room.

I used this for a beef roast helped a lot on temp. found the directions a little difficult. hubby helped with that. I will use it again for oven roast .
Although it is difficult to learn how to operate (and doesn't seem to turn off?), it does exactly what I needed it to do. I love the magnet on the back of it.
I'm a cheesemaker, and in the past would sometimes get distracted and let the milk get too hot. With this thermometer, I set the alarm five degrees below the desired point, and it alerts me when I need to start watching the temperature. No more overheated milk! I found it very easy to set and use.
I've used this several times now for chicken and it really does help to be able to have the probe in the bird while the display is on the counter. No opening the door constantly! And the meat is done perfectly. I've used it in liquids (when heating milk to make yogurt) and it's easier than my old glass candy thermometer for that purpose. I did rate it only 4 starts because it IS a bit complex to figure out how to set temps to alarm. I'm still following the directions but they aren't so hard to follow so maybe a few more uses and I'll be able to set it from memory. Easy to clean and I'm sure it will come in handy when it comes time to boil down some sap into syrup this Spring.
I bought one for my husband (of course, he lets me use it!) and for my son, who is an adventurous cook. It was easier than I thought to use and to set. It's handy for breads, meats, and candy.
