Our Food Philosophy

Our Food Philosophy is guided by our mission, our core values, and the most recent science. These factors push us to continually improve our products and look for new ways to help everyone experience the joy of baking. We believe baking inspiration, joy, and success begins with a quality product. Above all, we believe that people have a right to know what's in their food.

As we continue to grow, evolve, and learn, our Food Philosophy changes to provide the guiding principles we follow to guarantee the quality of our food.

We’re thoughtful about every ingredient we use. This is true for all King Arthur Baking Company products and recipes, including the food sold in our café and bakery in Norwich, VT.

Leading Regenerative Agriculture

Leading Regenerative Agriculture

Given that the heart of our business is flour, it only makes sense that we think critically as a company about wheat and how it can be grown, harvested, and milled in accordance with our values. A regenerative future is one where farmers - at all scales of production - are economically viable and able to invest in practices that restore and sustain the health of the soil, water, and ecosystems upon which the fertility and productivity of the land have always depended. That’s why by 2030, 100% of King Arthur flour will be sourced from regeneratively grown wheat and this is only the beginning of our regenerative journey. Learn more »

Our Ingredients

Our Ingredients

We are building a responsible sourcing strategy for eight ingredients that we either use in significant quantities or know have challenges surrounding sustainable and ethical sourcing.

  • Cocoa
  • Sugar
  • Rice Flour
  • Tapioca
  • Potato Starch
  • Vanilla
  • Cinnamon
  • Palm Oil

In addition to our focus on responsible sourcing, we are committed to providing products with clean ingredients, which means there’s a lot you won’t find in our food. We have a list of more than 200 ingredients that we don’t use in our products or recipes.

Non-GMO

Non-GMO

We know GMOs have led to an increase in monocultural farming practices. This type of farming negatively impacts soil health and increases the need for pesticides, which is our primary reason for not supporting the use of GMOs.

All King Arthur brand products are made without the use of genetically modified ingredients. Many of our products are also verified by the Non-GMO Project and carry the Non-GMO Project Verification seal.

Some of our ingredients are sourced non-GMO, which still means the ingredient itself is not a genetically modified organism, however, GMOs may have been used in the production of the ingredients. For example, while the dairy we use in our products is non-GMO, it is likely that the feed given to the cattle is genetically modified. Learn more »
