  1. Divide buttercream frosting evenly between two bowls.
  2. Stir enough food gel paste or food color into each frosting to achieve the desired color and tone of your choice.
  3. Put 3/4 cup one color of frosting into a 12" pastry bag; and 3/4 cup of the second color frosting into a second 12" pastry bag.
  4. Prepare a third 12" pastry bag with your desired-size star tip, and place the two filled pastry bags side by side in the third one.
  5. Squeeze evenly so the frosting comes out of both bags at an equal pace. Refill your bags as needed to frost all your cupcakes.
