King Arthur Flour Named One of Vermont’s 2012 Best Places to Work

Employee-owned Company Makes Statewide List for Sixth Year

America’s oldest flour company has been named one of the 20 Best Places to Work in Vermont this year, the sixth year running. Final rankings will be announced at an awards ceremony this spring.

King Arthur Flour has been named to the list of Best Places to Work in Vermont since 2006. The company is ranked among large-size businesses (150 or more U.S. employees).

“We’ve been privileged to have the opportunity to participate and be recognized by the survey since its inception,” says King Arthur Flour Vice President of Human Resources Suzanne McDowell. “The feedback from each year allows us to pursue a path of continuous improvement for our employee owners.”

The survey and award program was designed to identify, recognize and honor the best workplaces in Vermont, companies that benefit the state’s economy, workforce and businesses.

Award winners are determined in large part by an anonymous survey completed by employees to measure their experiences and find out what they really think about their companies; 70% of the judging for the award is based on those survey results. Judging also includes evaluating each nominated company’s workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. The combined scores determined the top companies and the final ranking. The 2012 award program recognizes 22 companies in two categories: small/medium-size (15-149 U.S. employees) and large-size companies (150 or more U.S. employees).

The program was created by Vermont Business Magazine, the Vermont State Chamber of Commerce, the Vermont Department of Labor, the Vermont Department of Economic Development, the Society for Human Resource Management-Vermont State Council, and Best Companies Group. Best Companies Group managed the overall registration, survey and analysis process in Vermont. For more information on the Best Places to Work in Vermont program, visit
