King Arthur Flour Vice President Honored as Human Resources Professional of the Year
Suzanne McDowell Recognized for Contributions to Organization, Profession, and Community
Norwich, Vermont – September 28, 2012 – King Arthur Flour Vice President of Human Resources Suzanne McDowell of Norwich was honored this week as Human Resources Professional of the Year by the Society for Human Resource Management Vermont State Council. The award honors an HR professional who represents the best in the human resources profession in Vermont. McDowell was recognized for her worthwhile contributions to not only King Arthur Flour but also to the human resources profession and the community. The award was announced at the annual SHRM Vermont state conference in Burlington on September 17, 2012.
“Suzanne has been an agent of change and a caring leader through King Arthur Flour’s recent growth,” says President/CEO Steve Voigt. “She has developed innovative and successful employee training programs, strong partnerships with senior management to advance the company’s core values, and HR strategies that have positioned King Arthur Flour as a leader in the industry. She supports the broader HR profession through active involvement in professional networks and has spearheaded efforts to increase employee participation in community volunteering and green commuting. We’re both proud and fortunate that Suzanne is one of the key leaders of King Arthur Flour.”
Enticed by the positive work atmosphere and delectable baked goods, McDowell joined King Arthur Flour in 2000. As the Vice President of Human Resources, she is responsible for supporting the company’s goals and values through strategic human resource management. She oversees all facets of training, organizational development, workplace mediation, benefits administration, and compensation strategy. She plays an active role in developing benchmarks for culture and values at King Arthur Flour and serves as a trustee for the company’s employee stock ownership program.
Under McDowell’s leadership, King Arthur Flour has been named to the Best Place to Work List in Vermont since its inception. Prior to joining King Arthur Flour, she worked at Patagonia for over ten years in human resources and a variety of other roles. She is a graduate of The University of Utah.
The SHRM Vermont State Council represents human resources chapters throughout Vermont with nearly 400 members.
