Golden Flax Meal
The ultimate pantry staple for your health: Perfect for a nutty flavor in baked goods or a gluten-free nutritional boost. To create our finely-textured whole flax meal, we cold-grind golden flax seed to preserve the flavor and health benefits. With superior taste and bakeability, this versatile ingredient can be added to muffins, scones, and breads, sprinkled on smoothies, and even used to replace fat or eggs in a recipe.
- To bake with flax meal, replace 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup of the flour in your recipe with it. (You may need to add an additional tablespoon or so of water or other liquid to achieve the proper consistency of dough or batter.)
- To replace fat: For each tablespoon of butter, shortening or vegetable oil in your recipe, substitute 3 tablespoons of flax meal. Start by replacing about 1/2 of the fat in any recipe; gradually increase the amount you replace.
- To replace eggs: For every egg in your recipe, mix 1 tablespoon of flax meal with 3 tablespoons of water and let sit for 10 minutes until the mixture becomes gel-like. Add to your recipe as you would an egg.
- We recommend replacing either the eggs or fat in your recipe with flax, but not both in any given recipe or the texture will not turn out properly.
