# Useful Conversions and Equivalencies

## Temperature

### Fahrenheit to Centigrade

(°F - 32) x 0.555 = °C
 32°F = 0°C 85°F = 29.42°C 180°F = 82.14°C 300°F = 148.74°C 325°F = 162.62°C 350°F = 176.49°C 375°F = 190.37°C 400°F = 204.24°C 425°F = 218.12°C

### Centigrade to Fahrenheit

(°C x 1.8) + 32 = °F
 0°C = 32°F 30°C = 86°F 80°C = 176°F 150°C = 302°F 160°C = 320°F 175°C = 347°F 190°C = 374°F 205°C = 401°F 220°C = 428°F

## Weight

Europeans, of course, enjoy the benefits of using grams, kilos, and liters. Writing, scaling, and interpreting formulas is always more cumbersome when using ounces, pounds, and quarts. Fortunately, more and more professional formulas are being written in metric. This means that a thorough knowledge of the metric system is important. Below is a list of the most common conversions.

 ounces x 28.35 = grams fluid ounces x 29.57 = milliliters pounds x 0.454 = kilograms quarts x 0.95 = liters gallons x 3.79 = liters
 grams x 0.035 = ounces kilograms x 2.2 = pounds liters x 1.06 = quarts

### Equivalencies

 1 gram = 0.035 ounce 1000 grams = 35.27 ounces 1000 grams = 1 kilogram 1 kilogram = 2 pounds, 3 1/4 ounces
 1 ounce = 28.35 grams 16 ounces = 453.6 grams 35.27 ounces = 1 kilogram
 1 liter = 1000 milliliters 1 liter = 33.8 fluid ounces 1 liter = 1.06 quarts 1 quart = 32 ounces 1 quart = 0.95 liters 1 quart = 4 cups

## Fractions and Decimals

To convert ounces into pounds, divide the ounces by 16:

5 ounces ÷ 16 = 0.3125 pounds
140 ounces ÷ 16 = 8.75 pounds

To convert pounds into ounces, multiply the portion of a pound by 16:

0.68 pounds x 16 = 10.88 ounces

For example, to convert 1.75 pounds to ounces do the following:

0.75 pounds x 16 = 12 ounces
1.75 pounds = 1 pound, 12 ounces

To convert a fraction of an ounce into decimals, divide the top portion of the fraction by the bottom portion:

1/4 ounce
1 ÷ 4 = 0.25 ounce

To convert the decimal portion of an ounce into a fraction, first represent the decimal as a fraction, then find the lowest common denominator.

For example, to convert 0.5 ounces to a fraction:

0.5 ounces = 5 ÷ 10 = 1/2 ounce
