Hot & Sweet Mustard

This incredibly easy to make mustard is hot — it's got the eye-watering fire of Chinese restaurant mustard — sweet and smooth, all at once. It's wonderful in sandwiches, alone on crackers, or spread over meat as a glaze. Once you taste this, we guarantee it'll become a staple of your pantry.

Make this ahead of time to allow the flavors to mellow.

Ingredients

Choose your measure:

  • 2 tablespoons King Arthur Unbleached All-Purpose Flour*
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup dry mustard
  • 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
  • * The mustard will be quite thick, once refrigerated; use 1 tablespoon less flour, if desired.

Instructions

  1. Mix all ingredients together.
  2. For best flavor, let sit three days (or at least overnight) before using. (If you just can't resist and sample this mustard right away, you'll be disappointed at its strong, unpleasant taste. A wait of at least 12 hours, for the flavors to mellow, is imperative.)
  3. Store in a tightly closed container in the refrigerator.
