The flavor & consistency of this product is amazing! I sift it over pizzelles & other cookies for a beautiful finish!
One caveat -- unlike "real" confectioner's sugar which can live forever in the pantry, this has an expiration date for a reason, developing a vaguely rancid off-scent and flavor which required trashing an entire tray of lemon bars. sniff. should have checked first. would be great if there was a half pound bag (or I could share with a friend, I suppose). nonetheless, the non-melting characteristic is awesome!
I love to make holiday gingerbread cake in the Nordicware Snowflake pan. The non-melting sugar, lightly dusted on top, brings out the snowflake design. I don't think I sift more than a couple of tablespoons of sugar to get the effect. This makes a pound-package a very good deal indeed. I have had the package for more than a year. It has not hardened or clumped up.
This is such a great product. Firstly, it is so pretty and easy to sprinkle in a light even dusting. It does not melt away. I used it on my warm Aebleskivers and even after I froze the leftovers, they still emerged from the freezer with a white, powdery coating. Secondly, the flavor has a subtle vanilla flavor that is very delicious,
I marked this 3 stars, however I have not yet purchased it. I have a question regarding the ingredients. I read the label and it stated that it contains "Non-Hydrogenated Plant Fat". My question is what plant? I have allergies and it is important to me to determine if I would have a reaction, based on what "plant fat" it is made from. I use King Arthur flours, as I do all my own baking for everything. No store bought or processed foods. I am getting ready to make doughnuts and would like to use this Non melting sugar as a topping, so I would appreciate a response to my question before I order it.Hi Sher, The non hydrogenated plant fat used is Sal fat which is produced from Shorea robusta seeds and is a sustainable alternative to palm oil. Got tired of having to resprinkle powdered sugar on things in our very humid climate. Works great! Not concerned about textural issues, as I use this strictly for topping. Does not melt even when topping backed goods right out of the oven.
Recently purchased this product and used it for the first time yesterday. It lives up to its name of "non melting", but the texture and flavor are both a little odd. I ended up dusting regular confectioner's sugar over the non melting, which worked OK. Don't think I will purchase again.Maureen, if that flavor of this sugar isn't quite right for you, we might be able to provide some tips about how to make the most of it in your baking. For example, if your recipes call for confectioner's sugar to be added to the dough/batter, then we recommend using conventional powdered sugar, as this product isn't designed to be baked. Reserve the Snow White Non-Melting Sugar for dustings and light coatings of sugar that serve as a garnish. You can also consider combining some of the Non-Melting Sugar with some regular powdered sugar to get the best of both worlds. We hope that helps! Kye@KAF
The taste is definitely not as sweet as regular powdered sugar, but what was most problematic was the appearance of this sugar - the texture is odd and flaky. I think I'll take reapplication of regular powdered sugar over the odd texture and off taste of this product.Jessica, we're sorry to know that this product didn't meet your expectations. We hope you'll give our friendly Customer Support Team a call at 800-827-6836 so we can help. Mollie@KAF
Contains partially hydrogenated oil :-(
Hi Danielle, we're please to let you know that our Snow White Non-Melting Sugar has been reformulated and no longer contains partially hydrogenated oil. It's still the same great product with a smooth, sweet flavor that won't melt when it's sprinkled onto baked goods. Enjoy! Kye@KAF
This is a superlative product, and is especially effective when use in humid conditions, on moist toppings, and, of course, in baking food styling.
